CEO & Founder - tutor in all Sciences @ GCSE and A-level Instructor in Public Speaking and Communications
“The education system has certainly changed in recent years - the focus has shifted dramatically, far away from the student’s needs and more towards running schools as if they are a business.
When I started QBT, I wanted to offer a platform under which students could not only find joy in learning, but also feel genuinely contributed to as individuals.
I have 7+ years of tutoring experience, having also worked in the private education system as a Physics specialist.”

Dr. Christopher Oldfield
TUTOR - GCSE Chemistry & Physics A-level Chemistry & Physics
I have a degree in biochemistry from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and a PhD in biochemistry & physical chemistry from the University of Kent at Canterbury (UKC), specializing in applied enzymology. Throughout my career, I have published numerous research papers in prestigious international scientific journals and am named as the inventor on several patents.
Following completion of a post-doctoral research programme, I obtained a European Union scholarship to study at the prestigious Agricultural University of Wageningen, in the Netherlands.
Subsequently, I returned to the UK as a lecturer at UKC, but soon afterwards accepted a post as a Project Leader at Energy Biosystems Corporation, Houston, Texas, USA, where I led a team researching the applications of a newly-discovered group of enzymes found in bacteria capable of catalyzing the breaking of carbon-sulfur bonds in organosulfur compounds (C-S enzymes).
I returned from the USA to take up the post of Lecturer at Napier University in Edinburgh where I continued this research, which led to the discovery and patenting of a whole new family of C-S enzymes. I left this post to take on the role of Director of research and product development with Microscience Technologies, Ltd., an SME aimed at developing novel technologies for the public health sector, aimed at faster, more reliable testing methods for E. coli, salmonella, and other key pathogens posing a risk the public’s health globally.
More recently, I was lecturer and course director at the College of West Anglia, where I was responsible for teaching almost all Yr. II & Yr. III modules on the Anglia Ruskin University franchised BSc Biosciences degree course. I also taught A-level physics, and the physics and chemistry modules of the college’s flagship Access to Medicine courses (diploma recognized as A-level-equivalent qualification recognized by many UK medical schools). I am presently a part-time lecturer at The Leys School in Cambridge, where I specialize in teaching the natural sciences to international students - young adults who are seeking to come to the UK in the future to study for a science degree. I am also involving in training AI to think like humans, which is actually more fun than it might seem.

TUROR - GCSE Maths, Computer Science and all Sciences A-level Maths and Computer Science
I have extensive experience in education, most notably as the Head Tutor at Oxford College of Education, where I oversaw the tutoring program and directly contributed to its success. While there, I tutored five students for the 11+ exam, achieving a 100% success rate by reinvigorating the program of study and implementing the most efficient tutoring practices. These changes resulted in a 7% increase in admissions, reflecting the effectiveness of the tailored approach I championed.
In addition to my work at the college, I have provided private tutoring in Mathematics, helping five GCSE students achieve remarkable improvements—from a grade 5 to a grade 9—and supporting one A-Level student in earning an A*. These results were made possible by my structured yet adaptable teaching style, which focuses on identifying individual needs and building confidence in key areas.

Having lived and taught in France for a year, my interest in, and confidence using the language has dramatically increased. My lessons will be tailored according to your individual needs, if there is a specific skill that you would like to work on, this will be accounted for in the lessons.
My lessons are interactive, and student participation plays an important role. Jon retolaza
TUTOR - GCSE Spanish & A-level Spanish, Politics & Philosophy
I am a student from Bilbao currently reading Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) at the University of Durham. I have been tutoring in languages and humanities for about three years. I started tutoring in English as a Foreign Language to high school and university students in my community and in 2022 I was selected by Duolingo’s experimental project Duolingo Classes to conduct a course to prepare for the DELE B1 official Spanish exam, however, this was cut short after only three months. Nonetheless, throughout my university course, I have continued to tutor in EFL as well as A-Level Politics and A-Level Spanish.
It is hard to give a comprehensive definition for a good lesson—specially because my tutoring style is based upon three main principles: adaptability, trust and innovation. My lessons need to be adaptable depending on the student, the level and the subject. I always try to innovate bringing into the classroom scientifically-proven methods of learning, while maintaining a comfortable learning environment through trust.
